As a champion of New Zealand based products, Windsor Urban and its sister company, Spunlite are proud of their Christchurch heritage and relish the opportunity to support the city wherever possible. Pre-earthquake, the team had supplied the majority of the city’s poles and over a number of projects, were asked to assist with the “An Accessible City” (AAC) Project post-earthquake, supporting the buzz returning to the CBD. This was very much part of the rebuild of Christchurch.

Windsor Urban and Spunlite’s installations pre-earthquake had stood the test of time. However, post quake, significant lighting infrastructure had to be replaced. This allowed the adoption of innovative technology from around the world. An example of this was the Christchurch City Council’s use of retention sockets from Ireland for all traffic light installations. This technology, which is used extensively in Europe, allows the traffic lights to be replaced very quickly, if an incident occurred. The team also ensured that the poles were future-proofed, with the option to add additional fittings if needed. The need to adapt and innovate was a constant, with new fittings designed and manufactured by Windsor Urban to support a unique light solution, necessary for various projects around the city.

Due to wide and varied experience, Windsor Urban was able to support the majority of the AAC project’s requirements, supplying over 90% of the City’s pole infrastructure including traffic poles, lighting poles and even tram poles. This is a group of project’s that Windsor Urban was extremely proud to be a part of.
